Journeyman Wireman
Company Description
CleanDesign is a clean technology company developing hybrid energy management systems that help industrial and infrastructure operators reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, and improve power reliability. Its solutions combine battery storage, controls, embedded systems, and software to optimize energy usage in demanding operating environments where uptime and resiliency are critical. The company’s work spans applications across oil and gas, mining, EV charging, remote communities, and other critical infrastructure sectors.
Job Description
CleanDesign Power Systems is seeking an experienced Electrical Wireman to join our Houston manufacturing team. You will build, wire, test, and verify electrical control panels and equipment used in power generation, microgrid, and energy-storage applications.
The Electrical Wireman is responsible for assembling, wiring, verifying, and documenting CleanDesign electrical control panels and related industrial equipment. This hands-on role requires accurate interpretation of approved drawings, disciplined workmanship, careful cable management, and consistent compliance with safety, quality, labeling, and production-control requirements.
The position collaborates with Production, Engineering, QA/QC, Commissioning, and Field Service to deliver reliable assemblies that meet project and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble industrial control panels, power distribution assemblies, and control systems from approved drawings and bills of material.
- Install and secure breakers, relays, contactors, transformers, terminal blocks, PLC hardware, power supplies, and communications equipment.
- Wire and terminate conductors and cables — cut, strip, crimp, route, label, and dress to CleanDesign workmanship standards.
- Fabricate wire harnesses and communication cable assemblies; limited PCB population and light soldering when qualified.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and mechanical drawings.
- Test and verify work through point-to-point checks, continuity testing, in-process inspection, and Factory Acceptance Testing.
- Document and report labels, wire markers, serial numbers, checklists, test results, redline markups, and nonconformances.
- Support safety, lockout/tagout, PPE, 5S, and continuous improvement while coordinating with Production, Engineering, and QA/QC.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Regular standing, walking, reaching, grasping, and detailed hand work associated with electrical assembly and tool operation.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and occasionally work in confined or uneven production and field areas.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently using safe lifting practices and team assistance when appropriate.
- Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing and integration facility where safety footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, or other PPE may be required.
- Occasional travel may be required for training, commissioning support, customer requirements, or critical field activities.
- Ability to work extended hours, alternate shifts, weekends, or holidays when necessary to support production or project commitments.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of industrial electrical wiring, panel building, controls assembly, or comparable manufacturing experience.
- Hands-on experience with crimpers, torque tools, wire-preparation tools, hand tools, and digital multimeters.
- Strong attention to detail, safe work habits, accurate documentation, and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Experience with battery energy storage systems, microgrids, generator controls, VFDs, power-conversion equipment, UL 508A practices, FAT, SAT, or commissioning is an asset.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three or more years of industrial electrical wiring, panel building, controls assembly, or comparable manufacturing experience.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bills of material, and mechanical drawings.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, wire-preparation tools, crimpers, torque tools, and digital multimeters.
- Ability to identify common wire sizes, colors, terminal types, component designations, and electrical symbols.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative production environment.
- Valid driver license if driving is required for company business.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of electrical panel wiring or industrial controls assembly experience.
- Experience with battery energy storage systems, microgrids, generator controls, variable frequency drives, power conversion equipment, or packaged electrical systems.
- Familiarity with UL 508A panel construction practices.
- Experience performing continuity testing, point-to-point checks, troubleshooting, redlines, or in-process quality inspections.
- Experience supporting factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, or field service activities.
