How We Work
We operate in a hybrid model, spending three days a week in the office to collaborate, make decisions quickly, and build strong relationships — with flexibility to support focused individual work.
About the Role
As a Senior User Experience Researcher at Gen, you will lead strategic research initiatives that shape the direction of our consumer-facing products. Your work will directly inform product strategy, experience quality, and long-term innovation.
You’ll research large‑scale, consumer SaaS cybersecurity products used by millions of people, working day‑to‑day with product managers, designers, and software engineers in a modern, product‑led engineering environment.
You will be a trusted research partner to product managers, designers, and engineers, bringing a deep understanding of user behaviour and needs into every stage of the product development lifecycle. A core part of your role is bridging user needs with business reality — ensuring insights are actionable, commercially viable, and influence real decisions.
This is a senior-level role for an experienced applied researcher who can confidently move between high-level discovery and hands-on tactical research. You will frame complex problem spaces, identify opportunity areas, and help elevate the impact of research across the organisation.
You will join a global UX Research team working across Gen’s cybersecurity and financial products.
The team values collaboration, shared learning, and raising the overall impact of research.
In this role, you will focus on one of our core cybersecurity products, partnering closely with product managers, designers, and engineers. You will work alongside another senior UX researcher in this area, contributing to both strategic discovery and continuous product improvement that helps millions of people stay safe online.
You will also play a key role in shaping the future of our research practice, including responsible and effective use of AI within research workflows.
What You Will Do in This Role
- Lead proactive research initiatives: Identify knowledge gaps, frame complex problem spaces, and drive research that supports both near-term decisions and long-term strategy.
- Tell clear and compelling stories: Translate research findings into concise, persuasive narratives using storytelling, visuals, and workshops that influence product direction.
- Bridge user and business needs: Act as a strategic partner to product managers, advocating for users while demonstrating a strong understanding of business models, constraints, and trade-offs.
- Use AI effectively and responsibly: Apply AI tools to optimise research activities such as synthesis, analysis, and idea generation, while maintaining critical judgement and ethical standards.
- Raise research craft and impact: Improve research tools, processes, and ways of working. Share methods, templates, and best practices with the wider team.
- Mentor and support others: Provide guidance to junior researchers and peers, contributing to a strong and collaborative research culture.
- Partner cross‑functionally: Work closely with product, design, engineering, and commercial stakeholders to shape roadmaps and inform decision‑making.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
- 5+ years of experience conducting user research for digital products.
- A proactive, confident mindset: Comfortable defining your own work, identifying opportunities, and challenging assumptions.
- Strong business acumen: Able to connect user insight to product strategy and commercial outcomes.
- Excellent storytelling skills: Proven ability to turn research data into insights that influence decisions.
- Fluency using AI in your work: Confident in optimising research workflows with AI tools in a responsible and thoughtful way.
- Deep research expertise: Experience owning end‑to‑end research, selecting appropriate methods, and working through ambiguous problem spaces.
- Strategic and detail‑oriented thinking: Able to zoom out to see the bigger picture while executing high‑quality tactical work.
- Strong stakeholder management: A track record of influencing product and design decisions through insight and collaboration.
- Proficiency in English, written and spoken.
- Experience with research tools such as UserInterviews, Dscout, Optimal, FigJam, and survey platforms.
Bonus (Nice to Have)
- Experience in cybersecurity, fintech, insurtech, or other complex technical environments.
- Interest in mentoring others or contributing to research capability building.
