The Zelis Data Intelligence team seeks a visionary, engaging, and results-oriented leader who seeks a role supporting a rapid growth tech-enabled healthcare company. The VP, Engineering will lead scaling the global data and software engineering teams in managing the foundational enterprise data platform and creating tools and frameworks that enhance data collection and processing, analytics and artificial intelligence, data dissemination, and governance.
The VP, Engineering will exercise keen operating discipline to ensure that best in class data and software engineering practices and procedures are used to deliver solutions. They will be responsible for leading a cross functional development team consisting of Data Engineers, Software Engineers, Data Analysts, and Quality Assurance Engineers following Agile development methodologies.
This role will work cross-functionally across Zelis and will partner with teams across Technology, Product, and Business Operations to deliver commitments supporting: Data and Technology Roadmaps, Roadmap Sizing Estimates, Delivery Schedules, and Capacity Plans. The leader will require deep functional and technical expertise in delivering data and software solutions in a healthcare and/or financial services setting. The complexity of this position requires a leadership approach that is engaging, imaginative and collaborative. They will have a sophisticated ability working with other executive leaders to align, set, adapt, and deliver commitments supporting the most important initiatives enabling the organization’s success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead multiple data and software engineering teams, including resource levelling, mentoring, enhancing, and maintaining best-of-class development across multiple teams and disciplines.
Collaborate with software architects, product managers, engineering managers, and engineers to architect and develop the Best-In-Class data and software development practices/methodologies in delivering value quickly to stakeholders without sacrificing software quality.
Build partnerships with Business Unit and technology leaders to establish a validated quarterly capacity/demand plan that enables delivery of the Product Roadmap and technology Investments.
Act as a trusted advisor, building and maintaining relationships with technology leaders and Business stakeholders to develop a clear understanding of business needs; ensures cost-effective delivery of technology and data services to meet those needs and responds with agility to changing business priorities.
Maintain a dashboard of Key Performance Indicators tracking the efficacy of software delivery and the platform reliability of the supported environment(s).
Research and advocate innovative technology approaches that drive dramatic increases in business value, reductions in Time to Build, and Total Cost of Ownership.
Collaborate and build strategies with Vendor Partners to develop and execute against a resource plan that supports an annual budget in a cost-effective manner.
Partner with People and Culture team to develop people priorities and plans, that align with organization strategies. Continually looks for innovative and meaningful solutions to the recruitment, development, and retention of the technology workforce.
Leverage influencing and negotiation skills across the company to achieve business goals, cost-effective and innovative shared solutions.
Required Experience
10+ years of proficiency in data and software engineering, with a commendable track record of 5+ years dedicated to engineering management, encompassing managerial oversight of other managers.
10+ years in-depth experience in designing and implementing Service Oriented/Microservice Architecture(s).
5+ years of experience in wide variety of distributed systems and frameworks such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow, TensorFlow, Docker, Snowflake and more.
5+ years of building and maintaining Tier-1 (require 24*7 uptime and strict SLA) data driven applications.
5+ years driving full DevOps software development and engineering practices recommended.
5+ years experience in cloud computing (AWS preferred) and AI/ML driven platforms.
5+ years leading production support teams responsible for surveillance, monitoring, and remediation of production reliability events.
5+ years supporting technology enablement in healthcare or financial services industry required.
3+ years of experience in managing global engineering teams.
Diverse experience with a broad range of software development platforms, technologies, frameworks, and languages.
Proven ability to manage multiple product and solutions while meeting aggressive release schedules.
Strong technical vision and continuous improvement motivation and drive.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
Master of Business Administration or Engineering discipline (Preferred)
